Hi there,
Today’s drop is short, sharp, and worth forwarding.
Let’s get into it.
✨TODAY’s HIGHLIGHTS
Google and Google DeepMind are asking developers, researchers, and tinkerers to help answer the question everyone throws around but nobody can measure: how close are we to AGI, really?
Turn AI Into Extra Income
You don’t need to be a coder to make AI work for you. Subscribe to Mindstream and get 200+ proven ideas showing how real people are using ChatGPT, Midjourney, and other tools to earn on the side.
From small wins to full-on ventures, this guide helps you turn AI skills into real results, without the overwhelm.
🛠️ THE COURSES
Instead of building yet another giant model, they’ve released a new paper, “Measuring Progress Toward AGI: A Cognitive Taxonomy,” and launched a global Kaggle hackathon to crowdsource the actual tests.
Here’s the gist:
The goal: Move beyond leaderboard spam and benchmark AI on human‑like cognitive abilities—things like learning on the fly, monitoring your own thinking (metacognition), focusing attention, planning, and social reasoning.
The framework: DeepMind’s taxonomy breaks intelligence into cognitive components and asks: can models handle tasks that look more like real human situations, not just static datasets?
The challenge: In the new Kaggle competition, “Measuring progress toward AGI – Cognitive abilities,” you design benchmarks themselves—evaluations that test five under‑measured abilities:
Learning
Metacognition
Attention
Executive functions
Social cognition
Prizes and key details:
$200,000 prize pool for the best benchmark designs across multiple tracks.
Hosted on Kaggle, open to individuals and teams worldwide.
Submissions focus on creating tasks and evaluation setups, not training a bigger model.

If you jump in, hit reply and tell me which cognitive ability you’re targeting - or share your Kaggle benchmark link so I can feature a few reader projects in an upcoming issue. And if you’ve got friends, colleagues, or students obsessed with AGI debates, forward this to them and tell them it’s time to stop arguing on X and start writing actual tests.
